Am I behind! Lots of updates abound!

#2 – I just recently (like, today) finished all of Jane Austen’s novels. My list, from best to worst (IMHO): Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey.

#19 – I got my braces off, yay! Now I just get to wear a lovely retainer for 9 months straight 🙂 But at least I can chew gum and eat popcorn again.

#26 – I had one final Metropark to walk, which was way out in Grand Rapids, OH, where I never go. I was there last weekend for the Apple Butter Festival and decided it was as good a time as any to get a quickwalk in.

#63 – Jo kindly lent me her audio collection of The Chronicles of Narnia, so it was pretty easy to listen to them all in the car. Thanks, Jo!

#66 – Do you know how easy it is to spend $100 at Sephora? Very, very easy.

That’s it for now!

I haven’t touched this thing in awhile, but that doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about it! I’ve accomplished a few things since I last wrote. For #7 Do a play or musical, I’ve actually done a play AND a musical! I just finished up The Odd Couple playing Gwendolyn Pigeon and am now currently playing Logainne in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which has been a dream role of mine for awhile now. Very exciting!

Adam and I got our taxes back so I set up a savings account for us and have it set up to automatically transfer $50 a month into it, which takes care of #22 and #23.

Last fall I played kickball with The Toledo Sport and Social Club, which totally counts as a sport (#79). It was actually a lot of fun, and I enjoyed doing a sport that wasn’t competitive, and we had pizza and beer and a really great time. I will most definitely play again in the fall!

Just in time for the Oscars this year, Jo and I finished up watching every single movie that has won best picture. I’m really glad I added that one. I watched a lot of movies I never would have watched before. Some were amazing and some . . . not so much. *cough* Tom Jones *cough* I can officially cross #28 off my list.

I’m still working on more of them. I’m listening to the Chronicles of Narnia in the car. Now that it’s getting warmer I can walk a trail in the last Metropark I need. Jane Austen’s novels . . . I have them downloaded to my Kindle, I just need to get to them. Eventually.

Friday my husband and I decided to take the kiddos to the beach. Originally we had wanted to go to Maumee Bay, but a news report on the high levels of bacteria in the bay sort of turned me off to that. My husband and I spent a summer doing theatre in St. Marys, OH, and the troupe used to go to the beach on Grand Lake St. Marys, which happens to be the largest (or 2nd largest, I forget) man made lake in the world. And I just learned it was dug entirely by hand. Ouch. So after a brief stop in St. Marys to see the old theatre, our old apartment building and some of the old places we used to hang out at, we had a picnic lunch and the kids had a really great time playing in the sand. I also figured that since it would probably be windy, I could cross another thing off my list and fly a kite. It was perfect for kite flying and I eventually ended up just tying the kite to the beach chair where it flew for the rest of our time at the beach.

And now I’m exceptionally sunburned. Which is why I don’t usually go the beach.

#53 – Get something other than sesame chicken at a Chinese restaurant

After a lovely afternoon at a local art show, Jo took me out for some Chinese food. I figured this would be a great opportunity to try something new. We were initially going to get Moo Goo Gai Pan, but were told there were no mushrooms (which I’m not a fan of mushrooms anyway), but then were told we should have chicken and steamed vegetables. Which came with mushrooms. *shrugs* Either way, it wasn’t sesame chicken, it was tasty with soy sauce, and lunch with Jo is always awesome.

#69 – Eat a fruit I’ve never eaten before

I was at Meijer the other day perusing the produce section when this caught my eye:

I had no idea what it was and I was completely intrigued so I had to get it. I found out later it was a kiwano or horned melon. I also found a nifty wikihow on how to eat it. It was okay, but kind of hard to eat. I don’t think I’ll be picking up more anytime soon, though.

#92 – Take a dance class

I took ballet for 8 years when I was younger, so I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to take it again. Boy was I wrong! I have no idea how I used do HOURS of ballet at a time. Now I’m whipped halfway through our hour long session. Still, it’s been pretty fun.

According to the Day Zero website I’m 20% done with my list. I still have so much to do! I’m hoping to accomplish a good chunk of them this summer.

#59 and #64 December 31, 2009

Last night I was able to kill multiple birds with one stone. My birthday is New Years Eve and I learned a few years ago to never actually try and go out to eat ON my birthday. Since I’ve just had a baby and not feeling too much like throwing a party or going to a party, I decided a nice dinner with close friends was exactly what I wanted this year.  We decided on Granite City, which is also a microbrewery, so I was able to cross #59 off – go to a beer tasting and find a beer I actually like. I got to sample 7 different kinds of beer and thought Brother Benedict’s Bock wasn’t terrible(which is pretty much as close as I’m going to get to “liking” a beer, I think). My two friends decided just finding a beer I liked wasn’t good enough, I had to drink a whole pint of it. Except the waiter brought me a 24 oz mug, which there was no way I was finishing that. I drank about half and they called it good.

My second goal, to get a word a day calandar, was fulfilled by Jo as a birthday present.

#26 – Walk a trail in every Toledo Metropark (2 of 11 completed) October 27, 2009

Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous fall day. I had heard it was supposed to rain for the rest of the week so I decided to take advantage of the day and Adam and I took the kiddos for a walk at Swan Creek Preserve.

#50 – Visit 10 Oddball Ohio Sites October 4, 2009

cycloramaThis weekend Jo and I went to Wooster, OH to visit my best friend, Anna. While we were there, we thought it would be a good idea to visit a couple of sites listed in the book Oddball Ohio.  We finally decided on The Cyclorama and The World’s Largest Amish Buggy, which is at Wendell August in Berlin, Ohio. After getting completely lost and completely sick on the roads, we finally made it to both our destinations.

The trip that crossed a lot of things off August 9, 2009

Jo and I just recently got back from a whirlwind tour of New England that crossed so many things off of my list!

#5 – Visit a state I’ve never been to before

New states visited – Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont

#20 – Visit five restaurants I’ve never been to before

Favorites included The Colonial Inn in Concord, MA, Pasta E Basta in Amherst, MA, this yummy ocean side restaurant in York, ME, and Bongiorno’s in Albany, NY.

#80 – Visit five different museums

This was pretty easy and almost felt like cheating, quite honestly. We were on a “literary tour” and most of the houses we visted were museums. We went to The Concord Museum and learned about the Revolutionary War, we went to Salem and went through The Witch Museum, we went to The Eric Carle Museum and Emily Dickinson Museum, both in Amherst, MA and the Norman Rockewell Museum in Stockbridge, MA.

When I got home Adam and his friend were working on the basement, so #14 – clean out and fix up the basement, should be done soon!

#34 – Try Letterboxing July 8, 2009

Last night after my friend’s and my usual Tuesday night get dinner, we had to run some errands to get costumes for the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (we will use pretty much any excuse possible to dress up). I had printed out the coordinates to a certain letterbox site I’d been wanting to try for a while so after a trip to Savers and Goodwill we headed over to the site – a graveyard.  Matt found the first letterbox which contained the clue for the next letterbox. The clue was written in a fun code that we deciphered and led us to a park behind the school where Adam went to elementary school. After Clint finally figured out how my GPS gave the coordinates we were AT, we were able to plug in the missing coordinates and search the area. Julie ended up finding the box in a tree and everyone signed the log.

It was definitely something new and different for our Tuesday night get togethers and I’m sure we’ll take on another adventure soon.
