#62 – Beat Adam at chess May 16, 2009

Today, my friends, is a historic day. Today, for the first time ever, for the first time in the almost 10 years that I have known Adam, I beat him at chess. Alert the mass media! Trust me, it was no easy ordeal.  I’ve only ever played chess casually and Adam was not only captain of the chess team, he also placed 2nd in a city wide chess tournament(he got a nice big trophy and everything.)

I figured I should start trying to beat him at chess early on in the project. I saw many, many chess games in our future. But, somehow, I managed to win so soon! It was a tense game, full of ups and downs. In the end I was down to only my king, queen, knight and two pawns. But I rallied the troops and came out victorious.  I made him swear a million and one times that he did not just let me win and he seemed pretty convincing (and he’s a horrible liar).

So that’s another thing I can cross off my list. Yay!

Two Weeks In May 9, 2009

I’m roughly two weeks in and I think things are going well so far. There are some things I know are going to have to wait until after the pregnancy but I think I’m doing well with what I can do.

For my monthly CD from the library, I’ve gotten Bernadette Moley’s “All I Want”. It was pretty good, I’d call her a Celtic Jewel. My next CD was a band called Bright Eyes. It’s . . . different.

In other 101 news, I’m reading my first Jane Austen book, Persuasion. I wrote my first snail mail and need to get onto my second. I’m also currently watching Dances With Wolves, which is part of my Best Picture list. It’s kind of long and kind of pointless, but it’s almost over so that’s good.
